The Oak Court was used as a Magistrates Court until 2010. It is a replica of the Old Bailey and designed on the diagonal for maximum capacity.
Wiltshire Assizes Courts
In 1827 Justice Park sentenced 28 people to death in this court, one of the crimes being stealing half a crown. The Oak Court was remodelled in 1896-7 in response to the fear that Salisbury would lose the privilege of holding the Wiltshire Assizes Courts to Trowbridge.
The Staircase where the accused were ‘taken down’ still exists today and can be followed under the building to the Cells.
